Metal fans have classified their style as power metal or folk metal but the band believe the moniker of pirate metal fits them best. The epic and jocular power metal stylings of Alestorms music has incorporated elements of thrash, death metal, metalcore and the use of instruments such as trumpets, trombones, accordions, fiddles and tin whistles for a genuine sea shanty experience. Vocalist Christopher Bowes is also a founding member of the symphonic power metal band GloryHammer.
