"The Ukrainian Blackened-Death/Doom-Metal-Offensive 1914 continues to bring the unpleasant past into the here and now and also addresses the cruel events of the First World War on album number three, Where Fear and Weapons Meet (October 22, 2021). On a total of eleven tracks and manifested in pure, melodic heaviness, the quintet pays tribute to all those who had to lose their lives during this cruel period - all the soldiers and their heroic deeds that must never be forgotten!
Already with their debut, Eschatology Of War (2014) and the following The Blind Leading The Blind (2018), 1914 were able to convince fans and critics alike with their meticulous and detailed examination of the story, packed in an impressive sound spectrum. But unlike its two predecessors, Where Fear and Weapons Meet not only focuses on death, but also puts more emphasis on life. Most of the protagonists of the album survived the cruel time and return home as war heroes. The album cover alone gives an indication of the band's intentions: marked by injuries and fear, the sole survivor of a battle stretches out his hands towards death. But he refuses to take him away. Because he deserves to live
What the band conveys musically is just as raw and ruthless as the theme to which 1914 have dedicated themselves completely. Massively brutal blackened death metal, accentuated by dramatic soundscapes and provided with a touch of sludge and doom, also sets the tone on Where Fear and Weapons Meet. Well-founded research and an almost endless thirst for knowledge give the Ukrainians' latest work an authenticity that once again deserves absolute respect. 1914 dive into their third work with the introductory ""War In"", which ends with the final ""War Out"" and immediately establishes a red thread to the previous records. “War In” is the most famous Serbian piece of music from the First World War period. just like the war
1914's latest stroke of genius is also an intense, in-depth exploration of historical events such as the Battle of the Menin Road on "Coward", featuring Sasha Boole (Me And That Man), the Battle of Messines on "Pillars on Fire" or the Harlem Firefighters on “Don't Tread On Me”. The tremendous highlight ""...and a cross now marks his place"" is reinforced by Paradise Lost frontman Nick Holmes and tells of the death of Private AG Harrison, who died in action on May 20, 1918, using an original letter from his mother when she received the terrible news of her son's death. Backed by authentic samples, 1914 transfer these and other events into the present and publish another milestone with Where Fear and Weapons Meet, which massively cements the outstanding position of the band!
