Hällas Isle Of Wisdom CD (Digipak, 2022, Napalm Records)

Isle Of Wisdom is the third studio album from Swedish adventure rock band Hällas, released through Napalm Records on April 8, 2022. The album combines the band's distinctive blend of 1970s hard rock, proto-metal, progressive rock, folk and psychedelic influences with a strong fantasy and science-fiction atmosphere. Across eight expansive tracks, Hällas create a mysterious retro-rock journey driven by melodic guitars, vintage-style synthesizers, powerful rhythms and the distinctive vocals of bassist Tommy Alexandersson. Songs such as Birth/Into Darkness, Earl's Theme and Elusion's Gate capture the album's adventurous and cinematic character.

The album develops Hällas' storytelling approach through layered arrangements, atmospheric keyboards and intricate guitar work. Birth/Into Darkness opens with prominent synthesisers before moving into a melodic vocal section, while Earl's Theme adds choral textures to its mystical atmosphere. Elusion's Gate gives greater space to the guitar work of Alexander Moraitis and Marcus Petersson, reinforcing the album's progressive and epic qualities. The production also features vintage synthesiser equipment associated with ABBA, adding another distinctive element to the album's retro-inspired sound.

For fans of progressive rock, classic hard rock, psychedelic rock and retro-inspired heavy music, Isle Of Wisdom offers an immersive combination of melodic songwriting, adventurous storytelling and vintage-inspired instrumentation. This 2022 CD Digipak edition is an appealing physical release for collectors and listeners who enjoy Hällas' unique approach to progressive and psychedelic rock, with its blend of fantasy imagery, atmospheric arrangements and classic 1970s influences.
