Taake Et Hav av Avstand CD (Jewel Case, 2023, Dark Essence)

Taake Et Hav av Avstand CD is the eighth full-length studio album from Norwegian black metal one-man band Taake, originally released in 2023 through Dark Essence Records. This edition is presented in a CD jewel case and features four extended compositions with a total running time of approximately 42 minutes.

Recorded in 2022 at Conclave & Earshot Studios, Et Hav av Avstand continues Taake's distinctive approach to Norwegian black metal while expanding the band's atmospheric and progressive elements. The album combines fierce, raw guitar work and aggressive black metal vocals with melancholic melodies, dynamic arrangements and a strong sense of atmosphere.

Taake mastermind Hoest performs the vocals and all instruments on Et Hav av Avstand and wrote all four tracks, maintaining the intensely personal and recognisable musical identity that has defined Taake since the band's formation in Bergen in 1993. The album was produced and mixed by Bjørnar E. Nilsen, mastered by Herbrand Larsen and features artwork by H'Grimnir.

Et Hav av Avstand was Taake's first full-length studio album following 2017's Kong Vinter and presents another chapter in the band's evolution while retaining the raw character associated with Hoest's work. The four tracks are Denne forblaaste ruin av en bro, Utarmede gruver, Gid sprakk vi and Et uhyre av en kniv, with the compositions ranging from expansive atmospheric passages to more aggressive and driving black metal sections.

For collectors and listeners interested in Norwegian black metal, Taake's extensive catalogue and the Dark Essence Records label, Et Hav av Avstand offers a focused example of Hoest's later-period songwriting and one-man approach to extreme metal.

Recommended for fans of Darkthrone, Satyricon, Tsjuder, Gorgoroth, Carpathian Forest, Immortal, 1349 and Kampfar.
