Ulcerate Vermis CD (Digipak, 2022, Relapse Record)

Ulcerate’s Vermis is a highly atmospheric and technically demanding death metal album originally released in 2013 through Relapse Records. Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, Ulcerate combine intricate extreme metal musicianship with dark, dissonant guitar work, powerful blast-beat driven drums, and an overwhelming sense of atmosphere. The result is a challenging yet immersive album that pushes death metal into darker and more experimental territory.

Across nine tracks, Vermis balances relentless technical death metal with expansive atmospheric passages and complex rhythmic structures. Songs such as “Odium,” “Vermis,” “Clutching Revulsion,” “Weight Of Emptiness,” “Confronting Entropy,” and “The Imperious Weak” showcase the band's distinctive use of dissonant riffs, shifting tempos, crushing percussion, and haunting guitar textures. Rather than relying solely on speed and brutality, Ulcerate creates a dense and constantly evolving sound that rewards repeated listening.

The Relapse Records CD edition is presented in a 4-panel digipak with a 6-panel insert. Recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, Vermis stands as an important release in modern technical and atmospheric death metal. Its combination of crushing heaviness, progressive songwriting, dissonant guitar work, and dark sonic landscapes makes it an excellent addition for collectors and fans of forward-thinking extreme metal.
