Einherjer North Star CD (Digipak, 2021, Napalm Records)

North Star is the eighth studio album from Norwegian Viking metal pioneers Einherjer, released through Napalm Records on February 26, 2021. The album continues the band's distinctive blend of Viking metal, Nordic black metal and folk metal, combining powerful guitar work, driving drums, atmospheric passages and melodic arrangements. Tracks such as The Blood And The Iron, Stars and West Coast Groove demonstrate Einherjer's ability to balance aggressive metal intensity with expansive, atmospheric songwriting. The album also marked the band's return to Napalm Records after 25 years, following their influential 1996 release Dragons Of The North.

Recorded at Studio Borealis in Norway, North Star features a raw production that complements the band's heavier and more atmospheric approach. The Blood And The Iron opens with forceful double-bass drumming and aggressive guitar work, while Stars introduces darker atmospheric textures and West Coast Groove highlights the band's technical songwriting and expressive guitar solos. Across eight tracks, the album explores themes of seeking direction and stability in a constantly changing world, giving its Viking metal foundation a darker and reflective character.

For fans of Viking metal, Nordic folk metal and atmospheric extreme metal, North Star offers a strong combination of raw heaviness, melodic guitar work and expansive Scandinavian atmosphere. This 2021 CD Digipak edition is an appealing physical release for Einherjer collectors and listeners who appreciate the band's modern interpretation of Viking metal and its roots in Nordic black and folk metal.
