Electric Wizard Witchcult Today CD(Jewel Case, 2007, Rise Above)

Electric Wizard Witchcult Today CD is the sixth studio album from English doom metal band Electric Wizard, originally released in 2007 through Rise Above Records. This jewel case edition captures a key release from the band's later catalogue, combining crushing doom riffs, psychedelic atmosphere and the band's long-standing fascination with occult themes, horror cinema and H. P. Lovecraft.

Recorded at Toe Rag Studios using vintage 1970s recording equipment, Witchcult Today was produced, engineered and mixed by Liam Watson. The analogue recording approach contributes to the album's deliberately vintage character, complementing Electric Wizard's heavy guitar distortion, thick bass, hypnotic grooves and dark psychedelic atmosphere.

The album features Jus Oborn on guitar, vocals and sitar, Liz Buckingham on guitar and Hammond organ, Rob Al-Issa on bass and Shaun Rutter on drums. Together, the lineup delivers a collection of slow-burning and riff-driven doom compositions that draw strongly on the sound and imagery of 1970s heavy music and horror culture.

Witchcult Today opens with the title track before moving through songs including Dunwich, Satanic Rites of Drugula, Raptus, The Chosen Few, Torquemada '71, Black Magic Rituals & Perversions and Saturnine. The album's themes continue Electric Wizard's fascination with classic horror and occult cinema, with Satanic Rites of Drugula referencing The Satanic Rites of Dracula from Hammer Film Productions, while Dunwich draws on H. P. Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror.

Released between We Live and Black Masses, Witchcult Today forms an important chapter in Electric Wizard's evolution from the crushing psychedelic doom of their earlier records toward the more deliberately vintage and occult-focused sound of their later work.

For collectors and listeners exploring Electric Wizard, British doom metal, stoner metal and the Rise Above Records catalogue, Witchcult Today is an essential addition to any collection focused on the band's distinctive combination of massive riffs, vintage production and dark psychedelic atmosphere.
