Stormruler Under The Burning Eclipse CD (Digipak, 2021, Napalm Records)

Under The Burning Eclipse is the debut full-length album from St. Louis, Missouri black metal duo Stormruler, the band takes their name from a weapon in FromSoftware Inc.'s game, Demons Souls, the weapon also later reappears in Dark Souls 3, and its special ability appears in Elden Ring Neightreign. Released through Napalm Records on May 28, 2021 the album combines fast and aggressive black metal with melodic guitar work, atmospheric passages and epic fantasy-driven storytelling. Across 19 tracks, Stormruler move between blistering blast beats, soaring riffs and ominous instrumental interludes, with Reign Of The Winged Duke, Age Of Steel & Blood and the expansive title track establishing the album's dark and cinematic character.

Built around the songwriting of guitarist and vocalist Jason Asberry and drummer Jesse Schobel, the album draws on black metal, traditional heavy metal and epic influences while maintaining a modern production. Instrumental pieces such as The Shine Of Ivory Horns, The March Onto Golden Lands and Illuminating The Ancient Sky create atmospheric transitions between the heavier compositions, while Of Hollowed Souls & Distant Flame and Mark Of The Valkyrie showcase the band's melodic and grandiose side. The album's themes explore war, death, victory, defeat, history and high fantasy across an immersive hour-long journey.

For fans of melodic black metal, atmospheric extreme metal and epic black metal, Under The Burning Eclipse offers a powerful combination of aggression, melody and cinematic atmosphere. This digipak CD edition is an appealing physical edition for collectors and listeners who appreciate the melodic Scandinavian black metal tradition alongside fantasy-inspired compositions, traditional metal influences and modern extreme metal production.
