Bolt Thrower Warmaster CD (Digipak, 2018, Earache Records)

Bolt Thrower War Master CD is the third studio album from British death metal pioneers Bolt Thrower, originally released in 1991 through Earache Records. This 2018 Earache Records edition is presented in a collectible Digipak and documents an important stage in the development of one of Britain's most influential death metal bands and also contains the bonus CD track Destructive Infinity.

War Master was recorded at Slaughterhouse Studios in September 1990 and produced by Colin Richardson in collaboration with Bolt Thrower. Following Realm Of Chaos: Slaves To Darkness, the album marked a further move away from the band's earlier grindcore influences toward a more focused and powerful death metal sound, while retaining the crushing guitar riffs, aggressive vocals and relentless rhythmic attack that defined Bolt Thrower's early work.

The album features Karl Willetts on vocals, Gavin Ward and Barry Thomson on guitars, Jo Bench on bass and Andrew Whale on drums. Tracks including Unleashed (Upon Mankind), What Dwells Within, The Shreds Of Sanity, Profane Creation, Final Revelation, Cenotaph, War Master, Rebirth Of Humanity and Afterlife showcase the band's increasingly developed approach to heavy, riff-driven British death metal.

War Master is also an important part of the continuing musical connections across Bolt Thrower's catalogue. Cenotaph develops themes and musical ideas connected with World Eater from Realm Of Chaos, while later releases continue related musical motifs through The IVth Crusade, Mercenary and Those Once Loyal.
