Gruesome Twisted Prayers CD (Jewel Case, 2018, Relapse Records)

Gruesome’s Twisted Prayers is a ferocious old-school death metal album released in 2018 through Relapse Records. As the band’s second full-length release, it continues their dedication to the classic Florida death metal sound while focusing heavily on the melodic, technical, and socially conscious direction associated with Death’s influential Spiritual Healing era. The album features eight tracks packed with aggressive riffs, intricate guitar work, crushing vocals, and dark atmospheric intensity.

With its sharp guitar melodies, powerful rhythm section, raw death metal production, and memorable lead work, Twisted Prayers delivers an authentic old-school death metal experience without simply relying on speed and brutality. Gruesome combines crushing riffs with melodic passages, thrash-influenced elements, and elaborate guitar solos to create a sound that strongly appeals to fans of classic early-1990s death metal. Guest appearances from legendary Death guitarist James Murphy add further authenticity to the album’s guitar-driven attack.

Recorded at New Constellation Studios in Orlando with producer Jarrett Pritchard, Twisted Prayers runs for over 40 minutes and captures Gruesome’s dedication to the foundations of extreme metal. The album also features artwork by legendary metal illustrator Ed Repka, making this 2018 CD an excellent addition for collectors of old-school death metal, Florida death metal, Relapse Records releases, and fans of Death-inspired extreme music.

Recommended for fans of Death, Morbid Angel, Massacre, Skeletal Remains, Pestilence, Obituary, Possessed, Autopsy, Morgoth, Jungle Rot, Cancer and Exhumed.
