Incantation Sect Of Vile Divinities CD (Jewel Case, 2020, Relapse Records)

Incantation’s Sect Of Vile Divinities is a devastating old-school death metal album released in 2020 through Relapse Records. The band’s uncompromising approach combines crushing guitar riffs, guttural vocals, punishing drums, and an ominous atmosphere to create the dark, blasphemous sound that has defined Incantation since the early days of American death metal.

Across 12 tracks, Sect Of Vile Divinities moves between relentless death metal aggression and imposing funeral doom passages. Songs such as “Ritual Impurity (Seven Of The Sky Is One),” “Propitiation,” “Entrails Of The Hag Queen,” “Black Fathom’s Fire,” “Fury’s Manifesto,” and “Siege Hive” showcase the band’s ability to balance savage speed with slow, crushing riffs and sinister atmospheric sections. The result is a dense and powerful album rooted firmly in the traditions of late-1980s and early-1990s death metal.

Recorded at Incantation Studios and mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios, the album delivers a powerful production that preserves the weight and darkness of the band’s signature sound. With its combination of mangled riffs, dissonant guitar work, cavernous vocals, and doom-laden heaviness, Sect Of Vile Divinities is an excellent addition to any collection of old-school death metal, extreme metal, and Relapse Records releases.
