White Mantis Arrows At The Sun CD (Slipcase, 2025, High Roller Records)

Arrows at the Sun is the second full-length album from German thrash metal band White Mantis. Six years after their debut “Sacrifice Your Future,” the Bavarian quartet return with a record that expands their sound while sharpening their identity. Since drummer Thomas Taube and bassist Jan Strobl joined the lineup in 2016 and 2018, the band has continued to evolve, blending a traditional thrash foundation with chaotic, progressive, and unconventional elements. Strobl explains that the members’ varied musical backgrounds naturally push the songwriting into diverse territory.

Lyrically, White Mantis move beyond standard thrash themes with a more sophisticated and thought-provoking approach. “Arrows at the Sun” explores sociopolitical commentary, technocriticism, scepticism toward unchecked progress, as well as spirituality and the mysteries surrounding death. Musically, the album hints at influences from acts like Voivod and early Megadeth, but ultimately stands on its own. Tracks such as “Reality Exists” and the title song deliver the band’s signature mix of crushing riffs, frantic momentum, sharp melodic hooks, and unexpected twists—all without sacrificing intensity or catchiness.

With “Arrows at the Sun,” White Mantis reaffirm their place in the modern thrash landscape while pushing their sound into fresh creative territory.
