Bathory Destroyer Of Worlds is the tenth studio album from Swedish extreme metal pioneers Bathory, originally released in 2001 through Black Mark Productions. This edition is presented in a CD jewel case and captures a distinctive point in Bathory’s evolution, combining the epic Viking metal character of the band’s late-1980s and early-1990s period with the aggressive thrash metal approach heard on albums such as Requiem and Octagon.

Written and performed by Quorthon, Destroyer Of Worlds delivers a powerful combination of heavy guitar riffs, pounding drums, dark melodies and commanding vocals. The album moves between forceful thrash-oriented passages and the expansive, atmospheric songwriting associated with Bathory’s Viking metal era, creating a sound that connects several important stages of the band’s history.

Destroyer Of Worlds followed Blood on Ice and marked Bathory’s return to the studio after a lengthy gap between albums. The direction of the record was influenced in part by requests from longtime fans for a return to elements of Bathory’s earlier sound. Quorthon had originally been developing a more progressive album, but much of that material was ultimately discarded as the project evolved into Destroyer Of Worlds.

Destroyer Of Worlds takes its name from the famous J. Robert Oppenheimer quotation associated with the atomic bomb, giving the album a suitably dark and apocalyptic identity. At almost 66 minutes, Destroyer Of Worlds is Bathory’s longest studio album and includes tracks such as Lake Of Fire, Destroyer Of Worlds, Ode, Bleeding, Pestilence, 109, Death From Above, Krom, Liberty & Justice, Kill Kill Kill, Sudden Death, White Bones and Day Of Wrath.
