Darkwoods My Betrothed  Angel Of Carnage Unleashed CD (Digipak, 2021, Napalm Records)

Angel Of Carnage Unleashed is the fourth full-length album from Finnish black metal pioneers Darkwoods My Betrothed, released by Napalm Records after a 23-year gap between studio albums. The nine-track release combines fast, aggressive black metal with epic melodies, haunting keyboards, monumental choirs and powerful vocals. Inspired by the human cost of the Great Northern War of 1700–1721, the album draws on Finnish history to create a dark and atmospheric musical narrative. Tracks such as Name The Dead, Murktide And Midnight Sun and Black Fog And Poison Wind highlight the band's distinctive epic black metal sound.

The album features members of the band's original 1993 lineup, with Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish contributing keyboards as a full member and Kai Hahto performing drums as a session musician. Darkwoods My Betrothed combine blast beats, aggressive guitar work and harsh vocals with majestic keyboard arrangements, heroic clean singing and atmospheric passages. Songs including In Thrall To Ironskull's Heart and Massacre demonstrate the band's ability to shift between crushing black metal intensity and expansive, melodic compositions while maintaining the album's historical and emotional focus.

For fans of Finnish black metal, epic black metal and atmospheric extreme metal, Angel Of Carnage Unleashed offers a powerful combination of historical storytelling, intense musicianship and grand melodic arrangements. Released on November 12, 2021, this CD Digipak edition is an appealing physical release for collectors and listeners who appreciate atmospheric, melodic and epic forms of extreme metal.
