Incantation Profane Nexus CD (Jewel Case, 2017, Relapse Records)

Profane Nexus is the crushing tenth full-legth studio album from the American death metal band Incantation released through Relapse Records. Built around cavernous guitar tones, punishing drums, guttural vocals, and oppressive atmosphere, the album delivers the dark and uncompromising sound that has made Incantation one of the most influential names in American extreme metal.

Across 11 tracks, Profane Nexus combines relentless old-school death metal with slow, crushing funeral-doom passages, creating a dense and suffocating listening experience. Songs such as “Muse,” “Rites of the Locust,” “Visceral Hexahedron,” “The Horns of Gefrin,” “Lus Sepulcri,” and “Ancients Arise” showcase the band’s ability to shift between devastating aggression, ominous grooves, and monumental atmospheric sections. The album was recorded at Incantation’s own studio in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, with mixing and mastering handled by Dan Swanö.

With its filthy production, massive riffs, bleak atmosphere, and combination of death metal brutality and doom-laden heaviness, Profane Nexus is an essential addition for fans of old-school death metal, death-doom, extreme metal, and Relapse Records releases. This album is a strong choice for Incantation collectors and listeners looking for uncompromising, heavy, and atmospheric death metal.
