Square One is the second full-length studio album from Spanish heavy metal band Rave In Fire, following the band's acclaimed 2022 debut Sons Of A Lie. Released in 2026 through High Roller Records, the album sees the Madrid-based, female-fronted band expanding their traditional heavy metal foundations with progressive, speed and thrash metal influences while retaining their unmistakable old-school identity.

Rave In Fire first emerged in Madrid in 2015, developing their sound around the classic traditions of Spanish heavy metal. After establishing a stable lineup, the band independently released their debut EP Chronicle Of A Timeless End in 2018 before releasing Sons Of A Lie through Iron Oxide in April 2022.

Their music draws heavily from the pioneering Spanish heavy metal tradition, while also embracing the energy of the country's modern underground scene. The band's influences can be heard in their combination of powerful guitar riffs, melodic songwriting, driving rhythms and classic heavy metal vocals, creating a sound that connects the early 1980s with the current generation of traditional metal.

Rave In Fire also made their live debut in Germany in 2024 at the prestigious Trvheim Festival, further establishing their reputation beyond Spain and within the wider European underground metal community.

With Square One, the band deliberately pushes beyond the more straightforward approach of their debut. While Sons Of A Lie was written around a two-guitar lineup and followed a relatively traditional heavy metal formula, Square One gives greater space to the rhythm section and other instruments while introducing additional progressive, speed and thrash metal elements.

The album remains entirely self-produced, with guitarist and principal songwriter Jonjo Negrete handling the recording, production and mastering. This hands-on approach gives Square One a direct and authentic character, allowing the band complete control over their sound and arrangements.

Tracks such as Dark Poison, Knightwalker and Speed And Rave deliver a powerful combination of classic heavy metal melody, fast riffing and energetic songwriting, with influences ranging from early 1980s metal to the more technical and melodic side of traditional heavy metal.

The title track Square One takes the album in a more progressive and epic direction, providing a fitting conclusion to a record that demonstrates the band's willingness to experiment without abandoning the core sound that defines Rave In Fire.

The band themselves describe Square One as a natural continuation of the musical path established on Sons Of A Lie, but with a greater willingness to explore different styles and allow the individual instruments more room to breathe. The result is a more adventurous and musically expansive album that incorporates elements of traditional heavy metal, speed metal, thrash metal and progressive metal.

For collectors of modern traditional heavy metal, Spanish metal and the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (NWOTHM), Square One is a particularly interesting release.
