By the time Voivod unleashed Killing Technology in 1987, the Quebec quartet had already carved a reputation as one of metal’s most innovative and fiercely individual bands. Formed in 1982, Voivod- Snake, Piggy, Blacky, and Away - rose from the Canadian underground with their raw debut War and Pain and the chaotic extremity of Rrröööaaarrr. Years of constant rehearsing, poverty-level living conditions, and DIY determination forged a sound unlike anything else in the metal world.

Killing Technology marked the band’s major creative breakthrough. Recorded in West Berlin with renowned producer Harris Johns, the album introduced a sharper, more progressive and futuristic edge while retaining Voivod’s signature intensity. Tracks like “Killing Technology,” “Ravenous Medicine,” and “Tornado” showcased a new level of precision, atmosphere, and experimentation - blending thrash, hardcore, and progressive elements into a style that would influence countless bands.

Often cited by drummer Away as the perfect balance of speed, creativity, and sonic clarity, Killing Technology remains one of Voivod’s most important and influential releases.
