High Roller Records presents a fully remastered reissue of Book of Covetous Souls, the debut studio album from Austrian thrash metal cult act Ravenous, originally released in 1991 and now expanded with four bonus tracks.

Emerging from a small and traditionally-minded Austrian metal scene in the late ’80s, Ravenous were true outliers. “When we started, there were actually no thrash metal bands,” recalls frontman Jochen, who switched from drums to guitar in 1985 and co-founded the group, named after Voivod’s Ravenous Medicine. Soon, a four-piece Ravenous shared stages with Sodom, Bolt Thrower, and Coroner, absorbing influences from Anthrax, Metallica, and early Sepultura.

Book of Covetous Souls was produced by Ralph Hubert of Mekong Delta, who signed on after being impressed by the band’s intense live show. The album also marks the first-ever record cover by now-renowned artist Joachim Luetke. Over the years, it has grown into a sought-after underground thrash gem, earning praise from fans worldwide, including Japan, Portugal, and Brazil.

Since reuniting at Kaltenbach Open Air 2014, Ravenous have remained active and released their second album in 2025, aptly titled The Fourth Decade. This definitive reissue of Book of Covetous Souls is the ultimate way to rediscover one of Austria’s most overlooked thrash releases.
